Here are the information to take the right size measurements for dog collars, harnesses and leashes and other information about buckles, leather, etc...

Guide to sizing for dog collar measurement
Colliers

Buckle collar (1):
To measure your dog collar size:
You can measure a used collar from the inside tip of the buckle to the hole you use.
Or take a flexible measuring tape and place it around middle of the neck (or where you place it on the neck) placing the width of two fingers  between the tape and the neck. You can also use a string and tranfert on a ruler.
This is the size of collar to order. I will make the collar with this measurement as the center hole.
-The buckle collar measure is from tip of buckle to middle hole.

Chain martingale collar (2) and/or slip collar (3):
Take the measurement of the dog head at the largest area in front of the ears, this is the size to order. You can also give me the size of the neck.
Chain martingale measure is circonference with chain open, the chain open/close on ±3.75 inches. Take note that brass chain will tarnish white hairs if leave on dog for long periods. Nickel plated chain is available on request.

Leather choice
Actual colors may slightly vary from the picture. English leather used come from England (not to be confused with american "english" bridle leather), the curriers J.E Sedgwick
I also use quality american leather for western saddlery.
RED now available (not illustrated). Please note that some colors are in limited quantities.

Information about leashes
*I can without fee add a loose ring in the handle on request. It is useful to hand the poo bag container or a treat bag. You can snap on the ring and place the leash as a bandoleer or as a belt when the dog is off-leash.*

Snaps available for dog leashes
Many style available, from the baby snap to the bull snap.
I recommend the x-duty snap for dogs over 60-70pounds. The regular trigger snap is a nice size for dogs 20-60pounds. The baby snap look very nice for miniatures and small breeds, but require dexterity to open. I can help you choose the right snap if you tell me the breed/mix of your dog.
Solid brass= yellow, gold colored metal / Stainless steel= silver colored metal
Both are cast metal, not plated, they are very solid. I choose the best hardware i can find. For a x-duty usage or no care hardware, choose stainless steel. Brass always tarnish, it do not stay bright yellow unless you shine it regulary, it turn to a nice brown patina.
Heavy and X-large stainless steel snaps for giant breeds also available.

Leash width of  1/4"   5/16"   3/8"   1/2" : solid brass or chromed brass
Leash width of  5/8"  3/4"  1" : solid brass or stainless steel

Leather care
------------------------
You need to take care of your vegetable tannned leathers as they loose their content of grease and oils with time. I give recommendations for your new items as well as how to preserve them for the long term. The leather will get patina with age, it darken the original color.

=To soften and feed leather=
New leather is a bit stiff, you can soften the leather with your hands, working it delicately. Do not fold the leather sharply when it is still stiff. The usage of the item will do the rest to obtain a supple leather.
About 4 times per year or when needed, use a nourishing cream to feed the leather. I recommend a natural cream like the Sedgwick's natural leathercare, Jeffries natural leathercare or Stubben Hamanol available in tack shop.
Unbuckle all pieces and wipe tack clean with a damp sponge or cloth and leave to dry naturally away from a heat source. Apply natural leathercare sparingly and evenly to both the grain (top) and the flesh (back) of the leather, make circles and let the cream heat and penetrate the leather. When dry to touch, buff with a dry cloth.

=To wash and maintain the leather=
Only use a damp sponge to remove the dust, sweat, etc.... Let dry naturally away from a heat source. You can use product like lexol PH to clean leather. Glycerine saddle soap bar can be used on the side and grain of leather to clean, maintain pliability, give a nice polished edge and show finish. Be aware that glycerin soap tend to dull colors, especially blacks. You may preffer a light beewax cream for frequent conditionning after washing leather instead of glycerin. If your black leather is fading, i recommend Fiebing black saddle soap paste.

=If the leather is wet=
Do not hang over or close from a source of heat to dry, it will harden the leather. Let dry at room temperature, use a nourishing cream just before it is completely dry.

=To store the leather=
For long term strorage, unbuckle pieces if they are of solid brass, as they produce green oxide and place the leather piece in a wool, cotton or linen bag in a temperate room. Cream every year or when needed.

=Limitation on liability of products=
MJ Lessard artisan sellier products are made from very high quality components, but because leather is a natural material that is effected by many factors we highly recommend that for yours and your pet/horse safety you examine your items regularly for any signs of wear and tear and have them repaired/restitch if necessary. A regular care of the leather is necessary to maintain pliability of leather.
